  • The Year 10 Course will consist of a number of practical based units of work which are targeted and enabling candidates to gain specific GCSE portfolio marks, (These are refered to as P marks). Often there are overlaps and if a P mark is not gained in one unit it may well be able to be obtained in another.

    The first unit of work is based around a Beauty Salon and you will be required to create a Relational Database. If you wish however, you may choose an alternative theme to base the relational database on.

    The unit is designed to obtain the following P marks:

    P8 - 2 Marks, P8.5 & P8.6 which are awarded for Knowledge (P8.5) & Understanding (P8.6) of Databases. The annotaed printouts of your work and how you created provide the evidence.

    P9 - 4 Marks, P9.31 - P9.34 which are awarded for creating a database. All four marks can only be gained by demonstrating the use of anumber of advanced features. Print outs of Tables, Various Queries, User Forms and Reports provide the evidence.

    P10 - 1 Mark, P10.3 which is awarded for the use of appropriate terminology when creating a database. Annotaed screen shots of what you created provide the evidence

    P11 - 2 Marks, P11.31 & P11.32 which are awarded for commenting upon your strengths and limitations when using database software. A written evaluation provides the evidence
